Fundraiser for family hurt in M9 crash exceeds €700,000

The GoFundMe for the three sisters and young boy injured in the M9 crash has reached over €700,000, with one anonymous donor pledging €10,000.

It comes as Mayo LGFA said it is also donating all proceeds from online ticket sales this weekend to the GoFundMe; nineteen LGFA club championship games are taking place across the county in Senior, Intermediate and Junior grades.

One of the family injured in the collision, Niamh Kinsella, is a member of the Claremorris Junior team.

The three women and a seven-year-old boy remain in hospital following the collision.

Ella Hendricken, Niamh and Alma Kinsella were travelling with the child to the airport for a holiday when the car they were in was struck by another vehicle driving the wrong way down the motorway in Kildare on Sunday morning.

They were all taken to hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Five teenagers in the other vehicle all died in the crash, which has renewed focus on enforcement of laws against dangerous driving, the regulation of social media content, and the provision of State care to children.

A prayer vigil in solidarity with the injured women and boy was held on Friday evening in Saint Clare’s Church in Graiguecullen, Carlow, near the Laois border.
