A garda has been injured after responding to a robbery in the Blanchardstown area in Dublin.

Officers responded to reports of a burglary shortly before at around 3.45am on Thursday morning.

At the scene, a garda statement said it was apparent to both gardaí that a burglary had occurred, and they called colleagues by radio for assistance.

Two members came across a man with a weapon, understood to be a knife, who became aggressive and threatening.

A male garda in his 20s suffered injuries during the incident and was taken to Connolly Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The weapon was seized along with €1,500 in cash, and a man in his 30s was arrested. He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a garda station in Dublin.

Welfare services have been made available to the garda.
