As the track and field season draws to a close the National Masters Track and Field finals took place in Tullamore on Sunday. St Abban’s had four athletes in action across a variety of events and different age categories.

Mark Brennan, who was part of the Men’s National League team last weekend, was back in action across the long jump, high jump and javelin. It was a very successful day for Mark where he brough home one of each colour medals. In the O40 long jump Mark finished in third place with a best of 4.35m. In the high jump he went one better winning silver after clearing 1.50m. He saved the best until last when his javelin throw of 32.87m was good enough for first place and a gold medal.

Patsy Baldwin was also in action in the O55 category. In the Weight for Distance Patsy finished in sixth place with a throw of 5.54m. He did claim a medal in the high jump when his clearance at 1.30m saw him finish in the bronze medal position.

In the O75 category Dick Mullins finished in second place in the 5000m running 25:29.

John Territt was the final athlete in action, throwing in the discus, javelin and hammer. In the O60 discus John won gold with a throw of 40.82m. Next up was the javelin where he threw 33.03m which saw him finish in second place. In his final event of the day John won another gold after a throw of 36.74m.

Well done to each of these athletes who were out representing the club. This marks the end of the track and field season for most athletes who will take a break before getting back into training over the winter months.

National U/20 & U/23 T&F 

Katie Baldwin and Aoibhinn McDonald were the clubs only competitors in the National Junior and U/23 Track and Field Championships held in Tullamore.

Katie, last week’s Ladies captain, finished in fifth place in the U/20 triple jump. Her jump of 10.15 came in the final round but was just short of the medal winning positions.

In the U/20 pole vault Aoibhinn McDonald finished in eighth place.

Tractor, Car and Motorbike Run 

St Abban’s AC Tractor, Car and Motorbike Run will take place on Sunday 25 August meeting at the clubhouse. Vehicles should arrive from 12pm with the run beginning at 1pm. All vehicles are welcome.
