The career of Ciara Milton continues to skyrocket. Having made the move to Shamrock Rovers to play with their U17’s in January, she’s scored five goals in four games, including a hat-trick on her debut. Now the youngster from Killeshin has been named Ireland captain for the Bob Docherty Cup which takes place this week in Antrim. They played England yesterday [Monday] and Scotland this morning before they go on to face Northern Ireland on Thursday. Speaking to the
Ciara’s mother Sinead said she was looking forward to it.“She is looking forward to it, she’s a little bit nervous about being captain with the responsibility of it, but she’ll be great when she forgets all that and just plays. She can’t wait and she’s not taking any of it for granted, she knows how lucky she is. There’s a few from the Rovers team who are with her and there’s five of them who were on it with her last year too. She’s over the moon. She doesn’t say much about it but you’d know she was delighted. She’s very humble. It’s incredible, an incredible honour. She’s good at soccer but for them to think she’d be a good leader is another nice little nod. It’s a huge honour. I’m bursting with pride.” Ciara is flying it at League of Ireland level with Rovers, having made the move from Killeshin this year and her mother says she’s loving the experience. “She was sick last week so couldn’t play, she was raging, she was hoping to score a few more. She has five already, she’s flying and popping them in. She scored a hat-trick against Dundalk on her debut. She’s loving it there, it’s only about 40-45 minutes for us. She loves the training and the coaches, she’s delighted with the decision to move up there.”
