Laois Hockey 1s 2

LAOIS Hockey Club 1s travelled to faced Botanic 2s in the first round of the Leinster Division 5/6 cup on Saturday last in Glasnevin.

Laois made a strong start to the game with plenty of attacking play and shots on goal in the first quarter.

This continued in the second quarter with Yvonne Hargroves finding the backboard shortly before half time to make it 1-0 to Laois.

Botanic came back fighting in the second half and made some good attacks in an attempt to even the score. However, the Laois defence held strong with some good saves by goalkeeper Marina Packer. Laois, not to be deterred, responded well with Holly Olgivie finding a Botanic foot in the circle to win a penalty corner for Laois. A lovely slip from centre forward Emma Brophy, found Gloria Lewis free on the right who fired it in the goal to make it 2-0.

With Botanic losing their goalkeeper to injury seven minutes before full time, Laois were keen to increase their lead. However, Botanic held strong and the game finished 2-0 to Laois.

Laois Ladies 1s cup journey will see them go on to face UCD 6s on Saturday 23 November at home in Loreto, Kilkenny.
