"This is a fascinating part of our history that goes back to the late 16th and early 17th centuries," said the councillor.

“The problem is the timeframe and the bird nesting season," said the councillor.

The council is to examine the location to see how the issue can be resolved.

The council official said that arrangements would be made to install the double yellow lines near the green area at the entrance.

“So bad is the situation now pertaining here in Laois that parents are being advised to take their children to schools in neighbouring counties such as Tipperary and Kildare," said Aisling Moran.

One councillor said: 'A friend of mine took her dog to be natured last week and it cost her €220. It’s a lot of money for somebody who is only getting €230 a week.'
