Parking on a curve in a Laois housing estate will be banned

Double yellow lines are to be installed near the green area at the entrance to Rathevan Close.

PARKING cars on the curve to the entrance to the Rathevan Close housing estate in Portlaoise is to be prohibited at all times.

Cllr Marie Tuohy sought the road measure at the November meeting of Portlaoise Municipal District Council.

She told her follow councillors: “The problem in the estate is that there a large number of houses and a large number of cars, but not enough car parking spaces so people are parking their cars on the curve.

“A couple of times in the last few months an ambulance could not get into the estate because it couldn’t make the turn because of cars parked on both sides to the entrance. We all know the potential of a delay for an ambulance or a fire brigade. The installation of the double yellow lines might help this in some way.”

Cllr Tuohy was told by the council’s executive engineer Wes Wilkinson that arrangements would be made to install the double yellow lines near the green area at the entrance to Rathevan Close.
