Mr McCahill – who was named Donegal Person of the Year in 2016 – died after an assault in his Ardara home earlier this week.

The accused, a popular musician with more than 15 million streams on Spotify, was handcuffed when brought into Letterkenny Courthouse flanked by detectives.

The 65 year-old married father-of-two was a former Donegal Person of the Year in 2016.

A man in his 30s was later arrested at a second location and is currently detained at a Garda station in Donegal.
