A LEARNER driver ‘baked’ on cannabis and opioids spent the night in a garda cell, after an encounter with Laois gardaí.

A MAN who was detected driving at a speed of 177km/h along the motorway in Laois with two children unrestrained in his car, was sentenced to four months imprisonment when his case came before last week’s sitting of the District Court in Portlaoise.

The driver was arrested and faces a date in court

At approximately 4:20am, gardaí received a report of a burglary at a residence in the Parkmore area of Roscrea, Co. Tipperary.

GARDAÍ in Laois seized a car from a driver who was too busy texting to notice a motorway patrol. The motorist was pulled in by gardaí on the M7 yesterday and proved to have no insurance, tax or NCT.

The motorway was closed by gardaí to allow emergency services deal with the incident.

One car was involved in the incident on the M7 on Monday night.
