Learner ‘baked’ on drugs spends night in Laois cell

Laois gardaí drew parallels with The Great British Bake Off as they posted pictures from the scene on social media
A LEARNER driver ‘baked’ on cannabis and opioids spent the night in a garda cell, after an encounter with Laois gardaí.
The car was stopped for doing 165km/h on the M7 motorway yesterday and things quickly turned sour, after the culprit failed a drug test and proved to be an unaccompanied learner driver with no insurance.
Creative gardaí drew parallels with popular TV show
, as they posted pictures from the scene on social media. In a post titled ‘The Great British Bake Off visits County Laois’, tongue-in-cheek gardaí said:
‘On Your Marks, Get Set, BRAKE!
‘Laois RPU stopped this yellow reg BMW speeding at 165 km/h along the M7 yesterday.
‘On approaching this vehicle, the aroma of cannabis would’ve given even Prue and Paul a bad case of the munchies.
‘Our roadside Drug Wipe ‘taste test’ came back positive for cannabis and opiods, confirming that this driver was well and truly ‘baked’ …
‘And the rest of the recipe wasn’t great either: No insurance; Learner unaccompanied; Live arrest warrant - Definitely not a Star Baker!’
Gardaí went on to report that there was no Hollywood handshake, just good old-fashioned handcuffs, as the driver was arrested and brought to a local garda station for an unexpected overnight stay.
Gardaí added: ‘Results of taking the biscuit: Driver arrested, charged and given an overnight stay in the much less comfortable garda tent, before being brought in front of a different type of judge in Tullamore this morning.’
Meanwhile, the vehicle was ‘whisked’ away on the back of a tow truck, after it was impounded by gardaí.
