Donegal motorists without proper cover for their vehicles are being targeted in a clampdown by local gardaí.

Cars without the up-to-date insurance, tax or NCT certificates displayed are now in danger of being towed away.

A total of six vehicles parked in the border town of Lifford were seized on Wednesday night.

It followed an operation by members of the Buncrana Roads Policing Unit.

Gardaí revealed that some of the cars had not been taxed for more than 600 days.

The owners will now face a recovery charge as well as an appearance in court.

The seizures are part of a campaign clamping down on undocumented vehicles parked in public places.

A Garda spokesperson said "Only park in a public place if your documents are in order/up to date."
