Coláiste Íosagáin 2-1
MOUNTMELLICK CS made it two wins out of two as they put in a ruthless performance against Laois rivals Coláiste Íosagáin in Mountmellick on Wednesday morning.
The home side were far superior and dominated the game from start to finish as they ran riot at the expense of the Portarlington school.
What was impressive about the home side was that 4-23 of their scores came from play with the other two scores coming from a free and 65.
Although, they were on the end of a heavy defeat the Portarlington school did battle hard throughout the game and were rewarded with a late consolation goal.
With both teams’ jerseys clashing the home side elected to wear theirs inside out to avoid the obvious clash.
Mountmellick CS got the scoreboard up and running as they got off to a good start. Brian Kelly opened the scoring with a point which was followed by a brace from Luke Kelly.
The home side were in a ruthless mood with their defence turning over ball and setting up attack after attack which led to more scores.
Points from Charlie McEvoy (2), Mickey Conroy, and Kelly extended the lead to 0-7 to 0-0 and it looked a long way back for the away side.
Two goals in quick succession from Riley Deegan finished off the contest and it was a matter how much the home side would win by.
Further points from Cillian Dunne, McEvoy, Kelly and Deegan finished the home sides scoring of the half, but the last score belonged to Coláiste Íosagáin with Ryan Murphy getting the goal.
The second half was very similar to the first with Mountmellick CS utterly dominant. Luke Kelly again scored the first of the half.

The scores kept coming from McEvoy and Alan Leemy before the home side struck for their third goal through Cillian Dunne.
Both teams emptied their benches with 15 minutes to go but it didn’t matter as the home side were at their ease.
More points from Kelly, Dunne, McEvoy and Jack Culleton got in on the act scoring the only two scores which weren’t from play.
The fourth goal came soon after with Brian Kelly adding a goal to his two points. To be fair to Coláiste Íosagáin they never gave up and got a consolation goal from Patrick Emerson.
McEvoy finished the scoring as the home side cruised to victory.
