Laois resident Declan Byrne recently completed a sensational 100km charity cycle in aid of Family Carers Ireland.

Mr Byrne, who lives in Ballyadams but is originally from Athy, works in Lidl RDC, who work closely with the charity.

"I've been cycling for Crumlin Hospital for nearly 40 years, all over the World, including Ireland, England, Europe America, Canada and South Africa," Mr Byrne told The Kildare Nationalist.

Family Carers Ireland

"Throughout Ireland, over 624,000 family carers dedicate themselves to providing remarkable levels of care in the home to loved ones, relatives and friends with additional care needs.

"Caring for a loved one can be rewarding. But it can also be isolating, frightening and difficult. Family Carers Ireland is the national charity, offering family and young carers a range of free supports and services, helping to combat the challenges that a caring role can bring.

"No one should have to care alone."
