RENOWNED actor and author Robert Sheehan returns to where it all began – the Dunamaise Arts Centre – for a fundraising event for the theatre on Friday 20 December.

The Portlaoise native, who will be accompanied on stage by fellow author John Boyne, will talk about his new book Playing dead, how meditation brought me back to life. There will also be a question and answer session with the audience, a guided meditation session and book signings by both authors.

This show will explore Robert's life, career and journey to inner peace, which is beautifully captured in his new memoir.

The Love/Hate, Misfits, and The Umbrella Academystar is a long-time supporter of the Dunamaise and he is donating all of the proceeds from ticket sales on the night to the theatre.

Michelle de Forge, director of arts centre, spoke to the Laois Nationalist about Robert and the upcoming event.

“The centre is proud and delighted to welcome Robert Sheehan back to his debut stage. Robert starred on our stage as a boy in local drama and local panto and he has come back to visit us over the years during his international filming projects to launch fundraising events and to run workshops with our teenage youth theatre members.

“Several years ago, Robert presented us with his famous blue hoodie from ***Love/Hate***, which we have framed and hung in pride of place in the bar upstairs. He has been a great supporter of the theatre over the years and we are huge fans of his. It’s really wonderful to have him back before Christmas this year to round off our 25th anniversary celebrations. To have him in conversation on stage with John Boyne, another acclaimed Irish author, is just great.

“John will interview Robert about his latest novel and how, over the years amid the chaos of fame and all that that brings, Robert has found peace of mind through meditation. We hear people talking about meditation and mindfulness more and more nowadays and Robert’s story about this is a good example of how it works. There will be lots of chat and banter, questions and answers from the audience and Robert will lead the audience in a guided meditation as part of the experience.” Ms de Forge added that the Dunamaise Arts Centre wishes to thank Robert for his generous donation of the proceeds from ticket sales.

The Bookmark from Laois Shopping Centre will be on hand on the night with copies of both authors' latest books and audience members will have the opportunity to have their copies signed by the authors.

Tickets for the event cost €32.50, or €55.50 (which includes a signed copy of Roberts new book.

Bookings can be made on www.dunamaise.ie or by phoning the box office from Tuesday to Saturday (1-5pm) on 057 8663355.
