Age-friendly parking spaces for Rathdowney
The age-friendly/disabled parking spaces will be convenient for church-goers and coffee lovers in Rathdowney
THREE parking bays for disabled or elderly people will be installed in the centre of Rathdowney early in the new year.
The age friendly/disabled parking spaces will be provided outside the church and parochial hall in The Square, following a request by cllr John King.
“A lot of people attending the church services now are of the older age group and they need parking nearby,” the Rathdowney councillor told the latest meeting of Borris-in-Ossory/Mountmellick Municipal District.
He asked the council to install three age friendly/disabled parking areas outside the church and parochial hall, ‘to cater for patrons who need to park close to the hall, church, bank and other services on a daily basis’.
He added that the spaces would also be convenient for older or disabled customers of popular coffee trailer The Square Cup.
Senior engineer Rory O’Callaghan confirmed that age-friendly parking spaces would be installed in the car park.
At the council’s December monthly meeting, the engineer said: “I doubt that we will get them done for Christmas but they will be done early in the new year.”
