Anna’s art show in Mountmellick is well worth a visit

FOLLOWING on from a successful first solo art exhibition at Bloom HQ in Mountrath in January, spiritual artist Anna Kupper filled the three-roomed gallery space of Mountmellick library with over 70 vibrant pieces for the library’s April art show.

Originally from Budapest, Hungary, where she was a teacher, Anna moved to Portarlington with her 15-year-old son three years ago. Six months later, she achieved her QQI level 6 award in childcare and continued her vocation by working as an early-years educator locally in Portarlington.

Anna loves her art. Because of her unique style, she said that she never knows what each piece is going to turn out to be, therefore, she selects a bible passage that she feels complements each painting. Later this year,Anna said that she will publish a book of her works.

Anna’s choices of mediums include silicone oil, Amsterdam acrylic paints, paint conditioner and pouring medium. The talented artist covers her canvas with these mediums, then uses a blowtorch to raise bubbles on the canvas and a hairdryer to spread the paints outwards around the canvas. She then spins them around on a cake stand until unique images emerge that she’s drawn to.

Anna then enhances her pieces with brushes. The results are stunning and a wonderful spectrum of colour and images jump from her canvases.

Commenting on the exhibition for the Laois Nationalist, Mountmellick library staff member Joe McCabe said: “Anna’s paintings are vibrant and full of creativity. There is a sense of being drawn into the universal infinity of nature and of spirituality. Colour and texture represent feelings both familiar and new. There are paintings for children and adults and for the child within. I would definitely recommend visiting Mountmellick library to see for yourself.” The wonderful collection of works by Anna Kupper can be viewed during library opening hours. Anna wishes to thank Laois Libraries and the staff at Mountmellick library for hosting her artworks and everyone who supported her.
