Another solar farm planned for Laois

BNRG has announced its intention to seek planning permission for a 32MW solar farm on 52 hectares of land that straddles the Laois/Kildare border.
A DUBLIN based company BNRG has announced its intention to seek planning permission for a 32MW solar farm on 52 hectares (128 acres) of land that straddles the Laois/Kildare border.
The company said that ‘Bnrg Bracklone Limited’ solar farm, plans to locate 17 hectares of solar panels in Kilmullen and the remainder on two parcels of lands in Kildare with the potential to power over 6,000 homes.
The company said that Bnrg Bracklone has commenced a public consultation and information programme that will take place over the coming months.
The objective of the consultation sessions, according to the company “is to inform the local community about the project and to obtain feedback to ensure a best-in-class project.”
The first of these sessions takes place in the Portarlington Community Centre on Wednesday 21 May from 3.30 pm to 6.30 pm.
The company said that it “will provide an opportunity to meet experts from BNRG and specialist engineering and environmental consultants TOBIN Consulting Engineers.
Subject to planning being approved the company said it, “would expect to establish a Community Benefit Fund in which locals would be invited to participate and to have their say in how the estimated €800,000 community fund would be invested over time.”
The company said that it expects to apply to both Laois and Kildare County Councils for planning permission during this summer and should the project get approval, the construction phase would take up to 12 months to complete.
