AN assault and robbery in Portlaoise on new year’s night is being investigated by gardaí.
Detectives are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information following the robbery, which happened between 10.35pm and 10.45pm last night.
They are particularly seeking information about two males and one female, who were seen ‘acting suspiciously’ in the area at the time.
The incident happened at the junction of Greenmill Lane and the Mountmellick Road on the night of Wednesday 1 January.
The robbery and assault are being investigated by gardaí in the detective branch at Portlaoise Garda Station, who say that public assistance ‘could be vital’ in tracking down those responsible.
In an appeal on social media today, gardaí said: ‘We are seeking information about two males and one female who were observed acting suspiciously in the area during this time, particularly near Mountmellick Road, Greenmill Lane, and in the Dunnes Stores car park.
‘If you witnessed anything unusual or have dashcam footage from the area, please contact the detective branch at Portlaoise Garda Station on 057 867 4134. Your assistance could be vital in this investigation.’
