A DISQUALIFIED driver who tested positive for cocaine has been arrested in Portlaoise, after allegedly giving false details to gardaí.
Laois gardaí said today that a Toyota Hilux was stopped in the town, following an automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) alert for no tax.
The driver initially provided false details when the vehicle was stopped, but further enquiries confirmed that there were both court and penalty points disqualifications.
A roadside drug test was carried out and proved positive for cocaine.
The Hilux was seized by gardaí and was towed away by a recovery truck.
The driver was arrested and charged to appear before Portlaoise District Court, for a litany of traffic offences.
The vehicle was pulled in by members of the Laois Roads Policing Unit (RPU), who were on high visibility patrols in Portlaoise.
Posting a photo from the scene on social media, gardaí said: ‘The Hilux doesn’t break down. But this driver's plan clearly did …’
