Barrowhouse Running Club celebrates successful inaugural harvest run

A COMMUNITY running club based near the Laois/Kildare border held its inaugural Harvest Run on Wednesday, 29 July.
Barrowhouse Running Club invited runners, joggers, and walkers of all abilities to take part in a chip-timed 5km to raise funds for Barrowhouse GAA.
The run kicked off at 7pm, starting and finishing at Barrowhouse GAA clubhouse just outside of Athy. In total, 252 runners, joggers, and walker showed up on the evening.
Barrowhouse Running Club was formed in February 2025. What began as a Couch-to-5k group, set up as a fundraiser for the local primary school, Shanganamore NS, has since grown into a community of almost 40 members.
The run was sponsored by Elite Crash repairs, Pittman Traffic & Safety, Ire-Power, Athy Steel Products, ML Stonemasons Thin Stone Ireland, RB Wallace Ltd, Irish Lamp Recycling, Cullenaugh Construction, and Dan Morrissey & Company - Plazamont Ltd.
Spot prizes for winners were donated by Talbot Fitness Carlow, Clanard Court Hotel, Athy Hot Spot, Manleys Menswear, Gillen Jewellers, BD Gyms Portlaoise, The GOAT House Sauna, Liffey Mills Athy, The Greenfields Festival, and Square Coffee.
Tesco Carlow donated water to keep participants hydrated on their run, Sunshine Juice Carlow donated oranges and a selection of juices, and Dunnes Stores Carlow provided post-race teas and coffees.
In a Facebook post, Barrowhouse Running Club thanked “the dozens of volunteers who gave up their time both on the night and in the weeks before to make sure everything went smoothly and that everyone was well looked after. Far too many to name, but you know who you are!”
