Book of Condolence in Laois for garda killed on duty

A BOOK of condolence has opened in Portlaoise for the late Garda Kevin Flatley, who died while on checkpoint duty on Sunday.
Laois-Offaly gardaí said today that Books of Condolence are available in Portlaoise, Tullamore and Birr Garda Stations for people wishing to pay their respects.
In a notice on social media, gardaí said: ‘An Garda Siochana Laois/Offaly would like to express our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of our colleague Garda Kevin Flatley 27260D.
‘As we continue to honour our colleague, Books of Condolences are available in Portlaoise, Tullamore and Birr Garda Stations for any members of the public wishing to pay their respects.
‘An online book of condolences is also available for those who may not be able to attend a garda station. The online book is at https://tinyurl.com/3nvfkry4.
‘Ar dheis Dè go raibh a anam.’
The 49-year-old died at the scene after he was hit by a motorcyclist at Lanestown, in north county Dublin, shortly before 1pm.
President Michael D Higgins, Taoiseach Micheál Martin and Tánaiste Simon Harris are among those who have expressed their sympathies and shock, following the death of the married father of two who had served for 26 years.
