Bus on fire in Pollerton

A BUS that caught fire on Wednesday evening in Carlow town and caused damage to a nearby B&B is not being treated as suspicious.

Five fire engines raced to the scene when a bus that was parked in the grounds of the B&B on the Hacketstown Road in Carlow went up in flames at 7.30pm.

The fire crew battled huge flames for 45 minutes, with only the burnt-out carcass of the bus remaining.

Speculation about the nature of the fire and if it had been an arson attack were rife on social media as footage of the dramatic scenes were shared within minutes of the fire starting.

Gardaí in Carlow confirmed that they are not treating the incident as arson and that an electrical fault was the probable cause of the fire.
