Calls for designated parking space on Stradbally’s main street

Car parking spaces in Court View should be numbered said the councillor

A DESIGNATED parking space is needed on the Main Street of Stradbally and all car parking spaces in Court View should be numbered so that each of the residents have their own space to park their car.

Cllr Aisling Moran proposed such a motion at the October meeting of Graiguecullen/Portarlington Municipal District Council.

She said: “It’s happening in housing estates that were built a few years ago, with limited parking spaces. Now with three or four cars in each house, some residents are able to park in a load of places while others have nowhere to park.

“In this particular situation it would be better for the resident to have their own parking space outside their house along the Main Street, rather than parking outside somebody else’s house in Court View.”

She said that what is also required are numbered car park spaces outside people’s houses.

“You’d have your one space for each house and the remaining 10 or 15 car parking spaces would be communal and for everybody,” she said.

Cllr Paschal McEvoy said: “The only problem with this is, (parking space on Main Street) you’d have to be careful where’s you’d put it because you could be blocking the view of cars coming out of Court View. But, I’d go along with that.”
