Community Groups in Laois receive just under €230,000 in funding

Portarlington Community Centre was granted €25,000 to renovate the toilets in the community centre
THE Minister of State and local Sean Fleming announced that 11 local groups ion the county were successful in their applications for funding under the Community Centre Funding Programme.
This funding assists local community groups, community halls, community centres and community associations with the work they do on a voluntarily basis in their areas.
The successful groups that received the share of the €229,213 funding are in Barrowhouse, Borris-in-Ossory, Camross, Vicarstown, Killasmeestia, Killeshin, Laois Friends for Special Needs, Portarlington, Rosenallis, Shanahoe and Timahoe.
Minister Fleming said: “I want to acknowledge all these voluntarily groups for the work they do and for applying for funding under this community centre funding programme. I know they will utilise these funds to further assist in the work they do in this area.
"Finally, I want to say to all other community and voluntarily groups throughout the county to watch out for announcements in relation to possible funding and apply for funding so that more organisations can benefit under community centre funding and other funding for community groups into the future.”

The successful groups were:
*Barrowhouse Community Centre received €11,000 to fund the installation of solar panels, lighting and insulation.
*Borris Innovation Centre Community Hub (Borris-in-Ossory) was awarded €23,445 for essential repairs to the rear wall of the old chapel room of the community hub.
*Camross Community Association received €24,438 for essential maintenance to the roof and to upgrade the kitchen in the community centre.
*Funding to the tune of €17,000 was awarded for the sanding and varnishing of the maple floor and reinstatement of line marking in the Community Hall in Vicarstown.
*€16,713 for the rewiring, ancillary works, the installation of water heaters and hand dryers and the replacement of emergency lighting and the installation of an exterior door in the Killasmeestia Community Centre.
*Killeshin AFC was granted €24,950 for works to stairs, fire approved doors, flooring and insulation at the Killeshin AFC Community Clubhouse.
*Laois Friends Special Needs, Social and Recreational Committee was provided €23,564 to fund the damp proofing of the walls the replacement of internal doors and windows and painting of the Rambling House Community Centre.
*Portarlington Community Centre was granted €25,000 to renovate the toilets in the community centre.
*Rosenallis Community Centre is to repair and varnish the community centre floor and purchase tables and chairs with €15,733 that was awarded to it.
*Six toilets will be refurbished in Timahoe Community Hall with a grant of €25,000.
*Shanahoe Community Hall will receive €22,370 to replace the fire exit, repair the floor install shelving and storage facilities and lay rubber matting.
