A CAR was seized from a disqualified driver, after an automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) system alerted Laois gardaí.

Gardaí said today that they received a real-time alert from the on board ANPR system, while they were out on mobile patrol.

The motorist had no insurance or tax and proved to be disqualified from driving. The driver was arrested, while the Volkswagen Passat was seized and towed away.

In a social media post titled ‘Computer Says No!’, gardaí said the driver was foiled by the ANPR system.

Posting photos from the scene, they said: ‘While out on mobile patrol, Laois Roads Policing Unit received a real-time alert from our on board ANPR system.

‘A quick scan of the reg and up popped a hit for no insurance or tax.

‘We stopped the vehicle shortly after and discovered the driver was also disqualified from driving.

‘They were arrested on the spot. The car was seized. They’re heading for the District Court.’
