Counting of votes underway in the Laois constituency

Tallymen in action scrutinize all the voting papers as the ballot boxes are opened in the Portlaoise Count Centre

Eager tally men from all the candidates in this year’s general election in Laois got to work immediately when the constituency returning officer Rory Hanniffy declared the official start to the count.

As the boxes began spilling out the ballot sheets, they were being meticulously scrutinized by the tallymen who were trying to see where their candidates, votes were coming from.

Early indications from the main party tallymen have Willie Aird, Sean Fleming and Brian Stanley performing strongly.

Elaine Mullally, Maria McCormack and Aisling Moran and also pulling votes from across the county.
