Bench warrant issued for Laois man who ‘never had driving licence’
Portlaoise Courthouse
A MAN who was stopped driving by gardaí on two separate occasions within a nine-month period was found to have no insurance or driving licence on both occasions.
The first occasion was on 12 June 2024 at a garda checkpoint that was set up on Dublin Road, Ballyroan. The second incident took place, again at a garda checkpoint, at Borris Little, Portlaoise on 19 March last year.
That was the evidence given by garda Ross Foy at Portlaoise District Court last week after the defendant, Arkadijs Jermolajevs, Dublin Road, Portlaoise failed to turn up to answer to a summons of driving without a licence and without insurance on both occasions.
Garda Foy said the 46-year-old defendant had eight previous convictions. Three of these were for driving while uninsured, with the last conviction on 13 November last year, where he received a five-year driving ban.
Garda Foy said that he carried out an investigation into Mr Jermolajevs driving history and found that he “never possessed a driving licence.” Judge Andrew Cody issued a bench warrant for the arrest and sentencing of the accused.
