Dublin man faces further charge of aggravated burglary in Laois

A MAN previously before Portlaoise District Court on a burglary charge has been served with a further count of aggravated burglary.

Eduard Ionut, with an address at 8 Orlagh Grange, Knocklyon, Dublin 16 and at Castlegate Green, Adamstown, Lucan, Co Dublin had initially been charged in relation to a burglary at Room 4, Ballycarnan Lodge, Portlaoise on 2 November.

At last week’s sitting, garda det Ger Galwey told the court that he had charged Mr Ionut with an additional count of aggravated burglary arising from the same incident. He said the defendant made no reply when the new charge was put to him.

Det Galwey informed the court that the director of public prosecutions had directed that the matter proceed on indictment and the defendant be sent forward for trial.

Judge Stephanie Coogans remanded Mr Ionut on continuing bail to the 16 March sitting of the court for service of a book of evidence.

A co accused in the case, Jovita Zakariene (42), Ballycarnan Lodge, Portlaoise also appeared before the court.

She is charged with conspiracy to commit burglary and with providing a false statement to gardaí on 2 November.

Det Galwey said Ms Zakariene made no reply when cautioned.

He told the court that he had no objection to bail being granted.

Judge Coogans remanded Ms Zakariene on continuing bail to the same date, 16 March, for service of a book of evidence.
