Fined €150 for parking in loading bay at Portlaoise hospital

WITH more than 200 parking spaces available at Portlaoise hospital, a motorist decided to park his van in a loading bay. In so doing, he was fined €150 when his case came before a recent sitting of Portlaoise District Court.
Detective Garda JP O’Brien told the court that on 29 October last while he was on escort duty at the hospital, he saw a van parked in a loading bay. He approached the driver, Michael Donoghue, 5 Ardrew Meadows, Athy and asked him to move it, which he failed to do.
Det O’Brien said that he issued Mr Donoghue with a fixed charge penalty notice, which he failed to pay.
Judge Susan Fay convicted the defendant of the offence and fined him €150. Mr Donoghue was not in court.
