Laois man charged with making gain by deception

Portlaoise Courthouse

A MAN who allegedly took a €3,500 deposit in exchange for promising to supply a landscaping service appeared at Portlaoise District Court last week charged with making gain by deception.

Michael O’Reilly (33), Main Road, Clonkeen, Portlaoise, was charged with the offence that allegedly took place at a property at The Avenue, Mount Stewart, Portlaoise on dates between 24-25 July last year.

Garda Sgt Jason Hughes applied to remand the defendant on continuing bail to allow time for the director of public prosecutions (DPP) to give directions on how the case should proceed (at district or circuit court level).

Judge Fay remanded Mr O’Reilly on continuing bail to the 13 July sitting of the court for DPP directions and assigned free legal aid to his solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick.
