Laois man found with kitchen knife during alleged dispute sent forward for trial

A MAN who allegedly carried out an assault that caused harm and was in possession of a kitchen knife during an alleged dispute was sent forward for trial to the upcoming Circuit Criminal Court in Portlaoise.
Garda Murray served a book of evidence on Lorcan O’Brien, 47 Heather Lane, Esker Hills, Portlaoise.
He is charged under section 11 of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act 1990 (the production of an article (large kitchen knife) in the course of a dispute) and under section 3 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997 (assault causing harm) at Heather Lane, Esker Hills, Portlaoise on 4 December 2025.
Judge Susan Fay sent Mr O’Brien forward to the 21 June Circuit Criminal Court sitting in Portlaoise and advised the defendant to notify the prosecution within 14 days if he intended to use an alibi in his defence.
