Laois man in court over alleged rape and sexual assaults on two women

A 24-YEAR-old Laois man appeared at Portlaoise District Court charged with one count of rape and three counts of sexual assaults on two women.
The man cannot be named due to the nature of the alleged crimes and to protect the identification of the alleged victims.
The court heard that when the charges were put to the defendant under caution, he made no reply.
Gardaí said they had no objection to bail being granted subject to strict conditions being observed.
Garda Sergeant JJ Kirby said the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had directed that case should proceed on indictment to the Central Criminal Court of Justice in Dublin.
Judge Andrew Cody remanded the accused on his own bail to the 2 November sitting of Portlaoise District Court for the service of a book of evidence.
