Laois man remanded in custody on alleged money laundering charge

A 32-year-old Laois man appeared before Portlaoise District Court last week as part of ongoing garda investigations into the alleged activities of a Leinster-based organised crime group.
Jake Deegan, Slatt Lower, Wolfhill, Ballylinan was charged with money laundering on dates between 1 April and 3 July 2023. He was also charged with conspiring with persons unknown to the possession of controlled drugs for sale or supply between the dates of 16 February and 2 August 2023. He faced another charge of money laundering at Slatt Upper, Wolfhill, Ballylinan on 1 August 2023.
Det Garda Montgomery gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution and said, when cautioned, he said that Mr Deegan made no reply to each charge. He said that the director of public prosecutions had directed that the case proceed on indictment.
Judge Susan Fay remanded Mr Deegan in custody to Cloverhill Prison to appear before Portlaoise District Court on 11 June.
