Local man caused criminal damage to Laois Garda Station

A MAN who climbed over a surrounding wall of a garda station and allegedly smashed windows in it was remanded on bail at Portlaoise District Court last week.

Garda Sgt Kirby said that at 9.30pm on 24 June, the owner of a private property reported to gardaí that a man had entered his home without his consent, went upstairs and allegedly stole a hammer valued at €50. The man ordered the accused from his home.

Sgt Kirby said the houseowner then witnessed the accused allegedly climb onto a wall and into the grounds of the garda station and allegedly smash three windows and the glass pane of a door.

Hugh Nevin (27), Oak Park, Portlaoise was before the court charged with burglary at Wolfe Tone Street, Mountmellick, with the possession of a hammer and to criminally damaging property at Mountmellick Garda Station on the date.

Judge Andrew Cody remanded the accused on continuing bail to the 20 July sitting of the court to consider jurisdiction.
