Man allegedly assaulted at Laois Shopping Centre

WHEN gardaí responded to a report of an alleged assault in the Laois Shopping Centre, Portlaoise they saw a man lying on the ground with blood coming from the back of his head and mouth.
The injured man was taken to the nearby hospital where he allegedly required several stitches to his head wound.
When gardaí viewed the shopping centre’s CCTV footage, they identified the alleged assailant as being Jake Kelly from 37 Golden Croft, Station Road, Portlaoise.
Arising from the incident the 19-year-old came before last week’s sitting of the District Court in Portlaoise on charges of assault causing harm and to engaging in threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour in the shopping centre on 16 June.
Judge Susan Fay said she was not accepting jurisdiction in the case adding: “It was a very serious alleged incident.” She remanded Mr Kelly on his own bond to appear again at Portlaoise District court on 12 January.
