Portlaoise Court: Judge refuses to hear assault causing harm case

JUDGE Deirdre Gearty refused to accept jurisdiction when two people came before her at a recent sitting of Portlaoise district Court charged with assault causing harm.
Before the court were Paul Graham (35), 9 Highfield Meadows, Portlaoise and Amy Lalor (32), Flat 3, Block 2, Fieldbrook Drive, Portlaoise.
Both are charged with assault causing harm at Apartment 2, Fieldbrook Drive, Portlaoise on 4 December 2022.
Despite both defendants pleading guilty to the offences, Judge Gearty refused to hear the case and remanded them on continuing bail and adjourned the matter to 25 January to allow time for the director of public prosecutions (DPP) to prepare directions on how the case should proceed.
