Portlaoise Court: Juvenile appears in court over alleged involement in Laois cemetery brawl

ONE of the two juveniles allegedly involved in a violent incident at St Peter and Paul’s Cemetery, Portlaoise on Cemetery Sunday 31 May appeared before the local court again last week.
Due to his age, he cannot be identified.
He was back before the court on a charge of affray on the day and was accompanied in court by his mother and father.
The boy’s father asked Judge Cody to vary bail conditions because his family wanted to move from where they were living in Offaly to his sister’s property in another county.
He said because of the alleged incident his family of eight, (six children and two adults) were unable to leave their current residence to walk up and down to the shops out of fear.
Garda Sergeant Jason Hughes said he would have no objection to the application to move address.
The man asked if the curfew hours could be extended to 9pm to 9am. However, Judge Andrew Cody rejected this application because he said the father had not demonstrated valid reasons why the hours should be changed.
Judge Cody adjourned the case to 6 August for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to give directions in the case.
