A MOTORIST who struck a cyclist on a pedestrian crossing was fined €250 when he appeared at Portlaoise District Court last week.
The court heard that at 7.05am on 17 May last year as a cyclist was making his way across a pedestrian crossing along the Abbeyleix Road in Portlaoise he was struck by a car. The man was taken by ambulance to the local hospital with minor injuries to his forehead, arm and leg.
The defendant Beata Wilczarska from 20 Triogue Manor, Portlaoise pleaded guilty to careless driving.
Defending barrister Brian Mallon said that at the time a bus had been stopped immediately before the pedestrian crossing. As his 41-year old client was overtaking it, he struck the cyclist who was on the pedestrian crossing.
