Portlaoise Juvenile Court: Youth damaged escalator in local shopping centre

THE owners of the TK Max store in Kyle Shopping Centre, Portlaoise had to pay a call-out fee of €350 to repair an escalator in its store after a teenage boy damaged it by jumped up and down on it while it was operational.

That was the evidence given against a 15-year old at the recent Juvenile Court sitting in Portlaoise.

The court heard that the incident occurred on 13 April when the boy, who cannot be named due to his age, caused the escalator to stop and had to be repaired because of him jumping up and down on it.

A call-out fee of €350 was charged to repair and restart the escalator.

When Judge Deirdre Gearty was told the youth had no previous convictions she said: “I need a probation report to deal with this.” 

She went on to adjourned the case to 24 March for a probation report.
