A DRIVER in Stradbally, Laois has been caught speeding, according to figures released by An Garda Síochána relating to its June bank holiday roads policing operation.

From Thursday, 28 May to Tuesday, 2 June 2026, Gardaí carried out an extensive policing operation on Ireland’s roads.

During this period, there were four fatalities and 12 serious injury collisions. Almost 4,650 drivers were detected for speeding during the operation, including a Laois driver caught doing 129km/h in an 80km/h zone on R248, Stradbally, Co. Laois.

Other notable speeds detected Tuesday, 2 June 2026 include 84km/h in a 50km/h zone on Drummartin Link Road, Dublin 14, 96km/h in a 60km/h zone on N4, Drishoge, Co. Roscommon, and 174km/h in a 100km/h zone on N83, Claregalway, Co. Galway.

Throughout the operation, Gardaí conducted both statutory Mandatory Intoxicant Testing and regular, high-visibility policing checkpoints. A total of 209 people were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Meanwhile, 400 drivers were found holding a mobile phone while driving, while 110 were found to be not wearing a seatbelt.

In a statement, An Garda Síochána appealed to road users to slow down, never drive under the influence of intoxicants, always choose a speed that is appropriate for driving conditions, wear a seatbelt, and give full attention on the road.
