A VAN driver stopped on the N7 is facing a six-month driving ban, after being caught holding a mobile phone in one hand and a cigarette in the other.
The motorist was issued with a Fixed Charge Penalty Notice of €160 and three penalty points by Naas Roads Policing Unit.
However, as the driver was already on nine points, the additional penalty brings him to the threshold for disqualification. He now faces being off the road for six months.
Gardaí have urged motorists to drive with due care and attention at all times, reminding the public that distractions such as mobile phone use significantly increase the risk of collisions.
