The man will appear at Portlaoise District Court in the near future
WHILE gardaí in Laois were conducting a recent roadside checkpoint they stopped a car that was being driven by a learner permit holder and who was driving while unaccompanied and without insurance.
On inspection of the car they found that the tax on it had expired on the vehicle 1,180 days (three years, two months, three weeks and four days) and the NCT had expired over 5 years ago.
The driver was also found in possession of cannabis and failed a roadside drug test.
The car was also in very poor condition.
It’s boot was being held shut with a rachet strap.
He was arrested at the scene.
When customs dipped the car the following day it was found to contain agricultural diesel.
Court proceedings have now commenced.
