Elderly man hit by vehicle on Laois street

AN elderly pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on Main Street in Abbeyleix tonight.
The man aged in his 70s was taken to hospital following the collision, which happened outside the town’s SuperValu store.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene to deal with the incident, which happened soon after 7pm.
A section of Main Street was closed to traffic and there were lengthy delays, while gardaí and other emergency services attended the scene.
Gardaí confirmed that the pedestrian was brought to the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore, with injuries believed to be “non-life threatening at this time".
The road has since reopened and traffic is moving freely.
