Election candidate in Laois knows a duck when she sees one

Independent general election candidate Pauline Flanagan said that the class of politicians who have been in power for the past 14 -years "know as much about the real lives of the people as Marie Antoinette."

“IF IT looks, walks and quacks like a pre-election bribe it is a pre-election bribe,” said Laois general election Independent candidate Pauline Flanagan, when she said: “The next government must find permanent solutions to the current cost of living crisis instead of the current tinkering around at the edges.”

“The people do not trust the current Coalition's unprecedented €2 billion splurge across a range of temporary welfare and once-off payments that make no real permanent impact on the lives of citizens. They know if it looks, walks and quacks like a pre-election bribe it is a pre-election bribe.”

She said: “Inflation means that increasingly people are living to work rather than working to live. Family and community life is being shattered by an economy where working families have to have two jobs to live and travel hundreds of miles to work. We may have full employment and full tax coffers but increasing numbers of people have no quality of life.”

She said: “We need to elect politicians who know and experience these issues rather than a class of politicians who after 14 years in power know as much about the real lives of the people as Marie Antoinette.

“The current Coalitions - ‘let them have temporary subsidies’ - response to the challenge of living today is as worthwhile as a placebo. As an Independent TD I will prioritise securing real solutions to the cost of oil, gas, food, transport, insurance and travel.”

“It is time to hold some feet to the fire,” said Ms Flanagan, “ instead of dumbly acquiescing to the ongoing erosion of the quality of life of our people. Independents who are not in the paw of their parties are required for that job.”
