Emergency services at scene of Laois fire

EMERGENCY services are at the scene of a fire in a wooded area beside a Laois road.

Gardaí and firefighters are dealing with the blaze that broke out in woodland on the Ballacolla Road near Abbeyleix.

In a warning on social media at 1.45pm on Saturday, gardaí said that the road remains open but a stop/go system is in place.

They urged drivers to take care on approach, while emergency services battle the fire outbreak.

Two units from the Laois Fire and Rescue Service are currently at the scene, together with garda vehicles.
