Famous thatched pub in Laois scoops regional award

Treacy's will represent the East region at the national final in November

A famous thatched pub and restaurant in Laois has been named a regional winner in the Irish Pub Awards.

Treacy’s Pub & Restaurant in The Heath scooped the Best Food Pub award for the East Region, when the regional category winners were announced last week.

The popular venue near Portlaoise will go forward to represent the region at the national final on 13 November, when the black tie Irish Pub Awards Gala Dinner will be held at The Mansion House in Dublin.

Treacy’s management said on social media: ‘Delighted to be awarded best food pub and go on to represent Ireland’s East in the National Irish Pub Awards this November. Things like this wouldn’t be possible but for all our hard-working staff. Well done team!’ The renowned meeting place has won countless awards over the years, particularly for food service and hospitality.

One of the oldest traditional pubs in Ireland, it was opened in 1780 and has passed down through eight generations of the Treacy family.
