Flooding closes Laois playground

A LAOIS playground has closed until further notice due to flooding, following heavy rainfall overnight.
Mountmellick public playground in Irishtown, beside the Owenass river, closed its front gates this afternoon.
Laois Co Council said the closure is a precautionary measure, as the river is at flood levels and there is already significant ponding in the playground.
In a notice this afternoon, Laois Co Council said: ‘Borris in Ossory Mountmellick Municipal Districts wish to advise that Mountmellick Playground is closed until further notice due to flooding.’
The council will provide updates if the playground reopens or has to remain closed if the situation deteriorates.
