Furniture stolen from Laois ICA hall
Furniture and other property was stolen from the Mountmellick ICA Hall on Davitt Road
A LARGE amount of property that included furniture has been stolen from an ICA hall in Laois.
The mean theft has caused upset and dismay for members of the ICA guild in Mountmellick, which hosts many community events in the hall and also rents the building to a variety of groups.
Mountmellick ICA said: ‘The ICA hall has welcomed people for over 40 years without incident and we are shocked and saddened to report this.’
The committee said that rental practices will also have to be reviewed as a result of the theft. The incident has been reported to gardaí and CCTV footage is being reviewed.
The well-maintained ICA House on the town’s Davitt Road was targeted by thieves late last week.
In a social media post on Friday 12 December, Mountmellick ICA said: ‘We are sad to report that a large number of items, including furniture, have been taken from the ICA hall. This theft has been reported to An Garda Síochána.
‘We will be reviewing CCTV footage. Unfortunately, this also means we must review our rental practices going forward.’
The thief or thieves would have required transport, so gardaí are particularly interested in sightings of unfamiliar vehicles in the vicinity of the hall.
Anyone with information that could identify those responsible is asked to contact Portlaoise Garda Station at 057 8674100.
