They said: ‘One prolific offender, wanted nationwide, has been arrested and charged. A second individual, sought in relation to multiple retail theft offences across the Eastern Region, was arrested on arrival into the State.’

Both individuals are due to appear before the courts in relation to widespreadretail theft.

Laois-Offaly gardaí said this afternoon: ‘These arrests reflect the ongoing focus on addressing repeat retail theft, supporting local retailers and disrupting persistent offending in Portarlington and surrounding areas.

‘Retail theft has real impacts on workers, businesses, and communities. Gardaí will continue to take decisive action.’
