‘A NINJA in stealth mode’ is how gardaí described a disqualified driver with no headlights, who tried to escape detection in Portlaoise.

The ploy failed and the culprit was arrested for a series of traffic offences on Sunday night.

The Ford Focus was towed away from the scene and the ‘Ninja’ is facing trial, not in a Dojo but in a courthouse.

In a creative social media post titled ‘Ninja Stealth Mode: FAIL’, gardaí said members of the Laois Roads Policing Unit (RPU) were patrolling the town when they spotted the car being driven with headlights off.

The post said: ‘This very poor attempt at "stealth mode" was no match for ANPR's infra-red cameras, which quickly alerted for no insurance, tax and NCT. Oh and this wannabe Ninja was also disqualified from driving …’

The imaginative post added: ‘No Dojo for this Ninja - just cuffs, custody and court.’

The failed Ninja is facing an upcoming appearance at Portlaoise District Court, charged with a litany of traffic offences.
